Perfectionism and attitudes towards sport psychology support and mental health support in athletes: A test of the 2x2 model of perfectionism

Abstract / Description
Attitudes towards help-seeking will contribute to whether athletes ask for support for performance and mental health issues when needed. Outside of sport, research has found perfectionism is related to negative attitudes towards help-seeking. Inside of sport, Watson et al. (2021) recently found that perfectionism predicted attitudes towards both sport psychology support and mental health support in athletes. The current study builds on the study by Watson and colleagues by examining the interaction effects of two dimensions of perfectionism in predicting attitudes towards sport psychology support and mental health support, and testing the hypotheses of the 2x2 model of perfectionism.
