Der „Performance Simulator": Entwicklung und Evaluation eines Trainingsangebots für Musiker am Royal College of Music

Der Performance Simulator am Royal College of Music in London ist ein neues Trainingsangebot, das es Musikern ermöglicht, Konzertauftritte und das Vorspiel vor einer Jury zu üben. Im vorliegenden Artikel werden zunächst verschiedene Simulationsmethoden besprochen, bevor der Performance Simulator und seine Entwicklung vorgestellt werden. Es folgt eine kritische Besprechung der ersten Validierungsstudie, deren Ergebnisse belegen, dass das Erleben einer musikalischen Aufführung im Performance Simulator der Realität generell nahekommt. Im Anschluss werden bereits durchgeführte sowie zukünftige Verbesserungen und Weiterentwicklungen vorgestellt und die Anwendung des Performance Simulator für die Erforschung grundlegender psychologischer und physiologischer Prozesse des Auftretens diskutiert. Zusammenfassend wird festgestellt, dass der Performance Simulator das Potenzial besitzt, sich zu einem essenziellen Teil einer professionellen Musikerausbildung zu entwickeln.

The Performance Simulator at the Royal College of Music is a new training facility that enables musicians to practice their performing and auditioning skills. In the present article, we discuss different types of simulations before describing the Performance Simulator and its development in greater detail. The first validation study, which provides evidence that the experience of a musical performance in the Performance Simulator is generally close to reality, is discussed critically. In the following section, we introduce already implemented improvements and give an overview of further developments. The application for basic research is highlighted and examples of research projects investigating psychological and physiological processes of performance are provided. lt is concluded that the Performance Simulator has the potential to evolve into an essential part of professional musicians' training.
