Abstract / Description
Paraphilic and compulsive sexual behavior disorders have been contained in the International Classification of Disease manuals published by the World Health Organization since it included mental health diagnoses in 1948 and in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manuals of the American Psychiatric Association since its inception in 1952. Significant modifications of both of these diagnostic entities in both of these manuals have been made since their most recent previous editions. This presentation will briefly review the history of these disorders in each manual, the significant recent changes, the implications thereof, and the development of research interest in these entities.
