Abstract / Description

In this study, the impact of a novel biofeedback device, the Reflect Orb, was assessed on various mental health parameters. The Reflect Orb, a cutting-edge technology designed to provide real-time feedback on physiological processes, was investigated for its potential to enhance self-regulation and promote overall well-being. In a randomized-controlled experimental design (n=60), we examined the influence of four-week self-regulation training using the device on stress, anxiety and depression reduction, as well as on sleep performance and quality of life ratings. experiment group participants used the Reflect Orb at home for a minimum of four times a week during four weeks. The control group participants believed they were assigned to a waitlist. Both groups filled self-report mental health questionnaires before and after the experiment. Following four weeks of regularly practicing relaxation with the Reflect Orb, significant improvements were found in the experimental group in stress, anxiety, and sleep when compared to the control group. Similar significant improvements were found in the overall Quality of Life score as well as in the physical, social and environmental subscales. Taken together, the findings shed light on the efficacy of the Reflect Orb as a potential tool for improving mental and physiological self-regulation, contributing to our understanding of innovative approaches to biofeedback interventions.
